Ilm Library is a digital marketplace for Islamic educational resources, serving Islamic Studies teachers and schools across international schools, local curriculum institutions, and madrasas worldwide. The platform offers curated, classroom-ready digital content organized by Cambridge curriculum year groups (Year 1 through Year 11), covering subjects like Quran and Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, and Islamic History. The business model connects verified content sellers with educators who can browse, purchase via M-Pesa, and instantly download resources. Before approaching Hatz Visuals, Ilm Library had no online platform and no social media presence to reach their target audience of Islamic Studies educators.
Project Objective
The primary goal was to build a fully functional e-commerce marketplace where Islamic Studies teachers could discover, purchase, and instantly download digital educational resources. The platform needed to support M-Pesa payments, seller verification, and content organized by Cambridge curriculum year groups. A secondary objective was establishing Ilm Library's social media channels and equipping the team with a branded design kit so they could handle ongoing content posting independently.
Scope of Work
The project covered two main deliverables: a custom-built e-commerce website developed with Next.js and deployed on Vercel, featuring M-Pesa payment integration, a seller marketplace system, and a resource filtering and download system. The second deliverable was social media account setup across key platforms along with a branded social media design kit — a set of templates the Ilm Library team could reuse for ongoing content marketing without needing a designer for every post.
The Challenge
Islamic educational content for the Cambridge curriculum is a niche market with no established digital marketplace serving it. Teachers typically rely on informal sharing, physical copies, or generic platforms that don't cater to Islamic Studies specifically. Ilm Library needed a platform that was both technically robust — handling payments, downloads, and seller management — and trustworthy for a community where content authenticity and quality verification matter deeply. Additionally, as a new brand, they had zero social media presence and limited marketing capacity, meaning the social media solution needed to be self-sustaining after handover.

We built a custom digital marketplace at ilm-library.com with a resource browsing system filterable by subject category, year group (Year 1-11), format, and tags, M-Pesa payment integration with live polling that verifies transactions within seconds, an instant download system activated upon payment confirmation, a seller verification system ensuring all listed content meets quality and authenticity standards, session-based carts for buyer privacy, dedicated pages for categories, individual resources, seller stores, and an IlmPlanner tool for educators, and a fully responsive mobile-first design. For social media, we set up Ilm Library's accounts on key platforms and delivered a branded design kit — a collection of post templates matching their brand identity that the team can customize and publish on their own schedule without requiring ongoing design support from Hatz Visuals.
